1966 Chevy Impala Build (Senior Project): Rear End

Time Log

May 5, Car was delivered at my house.

May 10, 2 hours. Cleaned the engine bay.

May 13, 2 hours. Pulled old motor out and striped it down to the block.

May 14, 1.5 hours. Cleaned up the old motor, made sure it was in build-able shape.

May 26, 2 hours. Took off left fender and hood, cleaned out the trunk and interior.

May 28, 3 hours. Removed all of the interior, cleaned the brakes so it could be pushed around.

June 6, 6 hours. striped the car down to just the shell sitting on the frame.

June 7, 2 hours. Removed the body from the frame.

June 9, 5 hours. Sand Blasted the frame.

June 10, 2 hour. Painted the Frame

June 20, 2 hour. removed all the panes of glass.

July 20, 3 hours. removed old suspension, and installed new shocks and front a-arm bushings and sway-bar bushings.

July 27, 1.5 hours. Undercoated the body.

August 14, 2 hours. Cleaned and sandblasted the cylinder heads.

August 15, 1 hour. sanded and painted rear end cover and drive shaft.

September 20, 4 hours. took apart the rear end and changed the old gear oil, painted the cover, and put it all back together.

October 5, 1 hour. went around finding every little kink and scratch to sand out.

November 10, 2 hours. sand blasted the heads.

November 11, 3 hours. started to clean up the valves and started to seat the valves in the heads.

November 16, 3 hours. cut out windshield, sanded door jams, in and around the dash.

November 17, 4 hours. ground out all the old bondo that was from the old body work. sanded down all the rough spots, started to work on the body work.

November 17, 5 hours. sat down and pounded all the kinks out and ground out the rust spots. Using a few special tools to roll the tin back to its old shape.

December 6, 5 hours. Put all new body bushing on frame, cutting and adjusting for the new size.

December 7, 3 hours.

December 15, 3 hours. Starting honing and cutting the cylinder walls.

December 18, 2 hours, cleaned the block up and honed it one last time before we send it off to get cleaned and cam bearings put in it.
